KeePass Password Safe by Dominik Reichl System Utilities → Security → Password Management
KeePass is a free/Open-Source password manager or safe which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk. So you only have to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the whole database....

The UI for this utility needs work. I couldn't figure out how to use it. It seems like a very robust application, but if the average user can't figure out how to add entries, the program won't get used. I'm looking for something more intuitive.

After trying other password db's, I settled on KeePass a few months ago. I have had no problems with it and find it somewhat easy to set up. Like almost any other software, you can start out with something easy and build on your experience with it. The help files are fairly complete. I operate it from a thumb drive since I travel alot and keep the thumb drive separate from my laptop...an added measure of security.

Missing =USEFUL= INFO FROM THE WEBSITE.
Unfortunately here and most freeware website don't provide in there brief description what are some essential features.
That makes for the time and effort to open each author's website and to search for listed features.... grrrr
[CRUCIAL for me..] Import and export filter (txt, csv, html, dynamic html and xml) *** No installation necessary. *** No changes to system files.
(Also..) Grouping of data by a tree structure - To make a grouping of the data possible, a tree structure instead of a list is used.
Ingenious encoding - To maintain your passwords with the greatest possible protection from forbidden access, a completely newly developed method of the data encoding was integrated in Security. It encodes the data at every storage process with another key and guarantees the greatest possible protection of your data therefore.

olfoo you're missing the point of most listing sites ;-)
We WANT you to visit the author's website NOT avoid it!!
It's the only place you can be sure of finding all the information available & the latest version. We aim to give you enough information for you to decide if the program might be what you are looking for & a link to the author's website so that you can go there to check *before* you download the program.
We ALL use the descriptions provided by the authors, very few of them detail ALL of the features or bother to notify updates. A lot of the listing sites allow the authors to create & maintain their own listings & a one-line-one-sentence description is not at all unusual! *I* will add to that, if I can, from the information on the website because FH system is NOT automated.
As far as this particular program is concerned, it's one of the ones where we did add an extra description page & ALL of our links take you there first. From there we send you to the author's site because HE does NOT ALLOW us to link to his download & WE do NOT host files.
The listing is now almost 2 YEARS old & there is a second, .NET version available so I will update the listing. BUT you're still going to end up on the author's site from ANY of our links because you now have a choice of versions & *I* don't presume to know what you are looking for ;-)
