Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier and it's Open Source. One box for everything - Type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and web pages. Google Chrome is spyware. it sends an encoded string of data to google's servers every 24 hours. The data contains detailed usage statistics of the browser's user, and it cannot be disabled. It uses google update.exe to get past your firewall. It's one of google's newest schemes of keeping track of it's users. This is spyware! Don't use it if you want your rights to privacy. If you dont believe me, head over to wikipedia or do a web search-google chrome+spyware. If you want a good browser, i'd recommend firefox. But stay away from Chrome.

Well, that's not much different from what every other Google tool does (including Gmail). Google tools always collect usage data, and where possible (such as Gmail) they also index and permanently store every piece of data that ever passes to/from their users. And no matter *what* browser you use, if you use Google for search, they keep detailed records of your IP address, exact text of each search, and the results returned. That's alot more information than they'll get from returning a daily digest of your browser usage. It's all just part of the cost of using Google! (and, yes, I use a variety of Google tools, they're *still* superb tools, in many cases).

As a separate comment about Chrome vs Firefox, while there are various carefully-crafted tests which show that Chrome is a blazingly fast browser, I found in real-world usage that I couldn't really tell much difference between the two. Thus, the other major difference (that Chrome lacks the extensive addon options that Firefox has) was the deciding factor for me. In particular, having used Adblock Plus for months now, using a browser without it now, feels like my keyboard is oily from all the ads and other junk that I can't easily get rid of... so Firefox is my baby for now.
