Diary Book  by TSM-Soft
Home and Hobby → Diaries and Journals

The Diary Book, as the name implies, is software for those who wish to keep a journal, a diary of daily life. Not only does the software include a text editor, but also an event reminder, address book, an alarm, picture manager, built-in mailer, HTML & Web Diary and To-Do List. These additional features make the Diary Book much more useful to busy people....

If youll see the user reviews on download.com you'll see that this comes complete with a trojan horse... SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PUT OUT HERE

One swallow doesn't make a summer - one virus/trojan *report* does NOT mean a file is infected!

We've had this program listed for over a year, 116 users have come back to vote for it. I think someone would have noticed before this if there was a problem!
Alt.Comp.Freeware newsgroup recommends this program & those guys could detect a virus/trojan before the hacker finished writing it!!

We've recently added the link to Download.com in this listing so you can rest assured that all 4 of the user reviews were read - including the ONE from the person who thinks there's a trojan *attached* to the download!!

Unlike us Download.com DOES download & test the programs it lists & DOES host download files. The program is also available from Simtel & they also host the download file on their worldwide network of servers.
No way would either of them distribute an infected file!

There are many things that can trigger a virus/trojan warning especially if you use an over-agressive *commercial* AV program such as Norton or McAfee. They are more than capable of "warning" you without telling you that the problem is simply that part of the program's code "acts like" a virus/trojan &, since they can't be sure, you get a false positive warning!!

Bottom line - never ignore virus/trojan warnings but DO research them fully before you believe them ;)

I think you do an excellent job here at Freewarehome.com. I really do apprciate all the offering you have.

I do find that due to some limitations in freeware, simply "You get what you pay for."

I feel this software isn't as good as it could be. I found out after I installed the software that if you do NOT have a C:\WINDOWS directory for your windows then you're SOL! I use a system with a C:\WINXP directory as the default windows directory.

Thanks for the other great freeware!

Ouch! That's a rather a sweeping statement Mark especially in view of your actual problem with this program. You have chosen to install Windows in a non-conventional path, I would expect that you would have problems with a lot of *commercial* programs that reference specialized Windows System files like Diary Book does.

As far as *I* am aware there are NO "limitations" imposed on freeware other than an author's programming abilities. Also the big advantage to freeware is that the *authors* are usually very approachable, especially over *unusual* problems like this. I would strongly recommend FIRST joining the Yahoo users group for the program to see what has already been said about this & then maybe contacting the author direct but keep in mind that he isn't English (Tan Sun Min).

Details are on the author's website here. The Yahoo groups link is at the bottom of the program description box, the author's contact address is on the support page.
