Google Earth by Google Education → Geography
Google Earth, a 3D interface to the planet powered by Keyhole - Explore, Search and Discover, Google Earth puts a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information right on your desktop. Google Earth combines satellite imagery, maps, and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips. With Google Earth you can fly from space to your neighborhood--just type in an address and zoom right in, search for schools, parks, restaurants, and hotels....

This all started when Google acquired Keyhole Corporation - a leader in satellite imagery. Google not only made it available for free but added some very neat features. One of my favorite is 3D rendering of the city buildings. Try to 'go to' New York City - you will feel like you are inside of some cool video game.
See railroads, subway lines and bus routes with all their stops. Get driving directions. Do local search, just type 'sushi' and you will see Japanese restaurant locations (if any) in selected area.
Land and terrain rendering is great. You have to see it to believe.
Highly recommended for all ages.

There is a site called Google Earth Hacks (not affiliated with Google) that contains a lot of information, hacks and downloads for Google Earth. Downloads include plugins such as 3D models, 3D cities, city/country maps, weather forecats, real time traffic, hotels, museums and many more.
