RandomPlay plays background music anytime while using the PC, just select any MP3, WMA or MID file, the other music files in the directory will be selected at random and then played only once. The tune currently playing is shown in the bottom toolbar. Also plays MOD and S3M files popular in Europe.

Shaken, not stirred is a freeware jukebox program for people who like to hear some songs played very often and others only occasionally. The frequency of play is based on the 1 to 5 stars rating you assign in Windows Media Player. The program generates shuffled playlists by randomly selecting songs from your entire collection, new songs, specified genres and/or existing playlists, or from any combination of those as you choose. How much more often favored songs are played, and how repetitions are separated, are options controlled by the user. The random playlist can be created in .wpl format for syncing to your MP3 player or phone with Windows Media Player, or in .m3u or .m3u8 format for other sync programs. Shaken, not stirred also includes a separate utility to copy album art from your computer to your MP3 player or phone, described on its own page. The program uses Windows Media Player's database, if you use WMP to sync your player, and have assigned song ratings, no preparation is needed, you can generate shuffled playlists in a few minutes. Mp3Extractor is a tool for copying several portions from an MP3 audio file into new (numbered and tagged) MP3 files. Drop markers at the desired start and stop times of these takes and optionally add track information. Similarity is a useful program that helps you to find and remove similar or duplicate musical files (MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, WAV, FLAC, APE, WV). You can check for the same or similar sound content or music tags (ID3,WMF,Vorbis). This is the best program where similarity of a sound part is checked, not just music tags or file content (byte to byte comparision). In addition the program analyzes the artist, title, and album information from the music tags contained in the audio files and compares these with the appropriate entries in other files. You can adjust sensitivity of searching criteria to find exact or similar files. In this way it is possible to identify similar titles with small differences. Duplicate files can be deleted or browsed. The list of duplicate files can be sorted, exported to playlist, and acted upon.

When you backup your audio tracks, and then restore them, sometimes it seems to take more CPU time or not perform as well as it used to. This is the joys of interleaved files. A normal file loves to be written out linearly; with every byte following the last byte, but digital audio doesn't work the same way, it prefers each sample to be woven with the next tracks sample. Interleave takes a file (normally a single audio track from a multitrack recording), and interleaves it with any number of other files you select, with independent header and content sizes for each file. This allows you to re-interleave files that you might have previously archived, or even improve the performance of files stored on another drive (since normal file copy will copy the file in a linear fashion again).

WinAmp File Copy will enable you to bookmark audio files, while playing them in WinAmp, so that you can copy your selection to a destination directory e.g. directly to your portable MP3 Player.
